Introduction to Linocuts

Learn the basics of cutting a linoleum block and printing on the Vandercook proof press. During the first meeting on Tuesday evening, students will be introduced to the techniques of image transfer and the tools and materials for cutting the blocks. Students will participate in the methods with hands-on exercises, and at the end of the session will be ready to cut their blocks at home. When the class reconvenes on Saturday, students will use the Vandercook proof press to print their blocks on archival printmaking paper suitable for framing.

Cost:  $115 (includes materials)

Dates: Saturday, November 5 2016; 1:00pm to 3:00pm (Part 1)

Saturday, November 12 2016; 12:00pm to 4:00pm (Part 2)

David J. Webb

David J. Webb is an artist working principally at Glassell School, The Museum of Fine Arts, Houston. His various works on paper have been seen in Glassell exhibitions. He has numerous block prints, etchings, lithographs, and photographs in private collections from Houston to Tokyo, Zürich, and Poltava, Ukraine. Strongly informed by a background in genetics and evolutionary biology, his work functions on the cusp between art and science.
