COVID-19 Response

The health and safety of our staff and the public is the foremost concern for the leadership of The Printing Museum. To comply with local and state reopening policies, the museum has enacted the following protocols:

  • Visitors must purchase tickets in advance.
  • General admission is limited to 40 visitors per hour.
  • Groups are limited to ten (10) visitors.
  • All visitors are asked to maintain a safe, social distance of six (6) feet or more.
  • All visitors six (6) years and older are asked to wear a mask.

Health & Safety Measures

  • All hands-on exhibits are closed, and in-person events and activities (tours and workshops) have been canceled until further notice.
  • Staff are required to wear medical masks and monitor temperatures daily.
  • Staff will make every effort to make transactions contactless.
  • High-traffic areas will be cleaned daily.
  • High-contact surfaces will be sanitized at least twice, daily.

Guided Tours

Guided tours have been canceled until further notice.

Guided tours are one hour and limited to 20 persons. General Admission is included in the price of a guided tour.

During your guided tour, you will learn of early forms of printing, participate in the hands-on printing of a leaf of the Gutenberg Bible pulled from a replica press, print a copy of the Declaration of Independence on a 19th-century Columbian iron handpress, discover the importance of the Linotype machine, and witness advances in printing and self-publishing that came about in the 20th century. Your tour concludes with a visit to our craft studios, and temporary exhibitions (if offered at that time).

Parking:

The Museum parking lot holds a capacity of approximately 15 cars. Additional free street parking is also available.

 

Public Transportation:

The Printing Museum is accessible by several METRO Bus Lines:

  • 032 Renwick/San Felipe – Stop at West Gray St. & Waugh Dr., walk three blocks north to West Clay St.
  • 040 Telephone/Heights – Stop at West Dallas St. & Joe Annie St., walk one block south to West Clay St.
  • 041 Kirby/Polk – Stop at West Dallas St. & Joe Annie St., walk one block south to West Clay St.
  • 056 Airline/Montrose – Stop at Montrose Blvd. & West Dallas St., walk six blocks east to West Clay St.

The building and facilities are wheelchair accessible.

 

Photography Policy:

The use of non-flash photography by the general public is permitted in all galleries, unless otherwise indicated. Photographs taken at the The Printing Museum are for personal use only, and are not to be used for commercial purposes. Visitors must receive permission by Museum staff to use tri-pods. Video is not allowed without prior permission.

 

Dining Options:

Several dining options, some within a comfortable walk from the Museum, are available along Waugh Drive and West Dallas, including Whole Foods Market, Vincent’s, Salata, Luby’s and Café Express.
