Printing on Ceramics: Silkscreen Method

This class will show you the basics of screen printing on clay! Each student will design and create one small serving dishes and two to three refrigerator magnets. Students will learn how to create visual texture by layering colors and patterns using provided silkscreens and underglazes. Once the clay has been printed on, students will use molds and various tools to create forms and textures, shaping their patterned slabs into functional dishes. All items will be kiln fired in my studio, glazed with a 100% food-safe clear glaze, and the finished pieces will be 100% food, microwave, and dishwasher safe. The magnet pieces will also have magnets attached with durable epoxy.

All experience levels welcome. Age: 16+, 13+ with a paying guardian.

Materials: All materials will be provided, but if students already own silkscreens they would like to use, they are welcome to bring them as well.

Please wear clothing that can get dirty, although all materials are food safe and will not stain clothing.

Students will be able to pick up their pieces at The Printing Museum approximately the week of March 17th following drying, firing, glazing and final production.

Family Fun: Printing on Clay

Family Fun events are a great way to experience a range of printmaking activities as a family! All activities accommodate a range of developmental levels that support children 6+ working together or alongside an adult/guardian. Reservations are in 45-minute increments on the hour starting at 11:00AM until 2:00PM. Registration includes General Admission to the museum!

Learn to silkscreen beautiful images on clay magnets. Participants will need to return to the museum to pick up their pieces after firing. All glazes are food safe.

Registration: Ages 13+: $20; Children 6-12: $16
