4 WEEKLY SESSIONS / JULY 13 – AUGUST 7, 2020 / ONLINE ONLY / AGES 8+

Make paper, pull prints, create books, repeat! That’s what your kids will do during Camp Create, The Printing Museum’s virtual arts summer camp. Your children will explore the various disciplines within the book arts — papermaking, relief printing, and bookbinding. They will learn different ways of making art and be inspired to use their imaginations well after the camp ends.

ART ACTIVITIES

Papermaking
Kick off the week’s creative journey with the 2,000 year-old art of papermaking. Kids create their own sheets of paper from vats of natural plant fibers, glitter, or paper confetti.

Paste Paper
Learn the art of paste paper—a centuries-old process to ornament books. Kids will learn how to add color and use a variety of tools (including hands!) to create decorative sheets of paper that then can be used to enhance creative book projects.

Printmaking
Explore the many creative possibilities with relief printingmaking. Kids draw on their drawing skills 😉 as well as found objects to create intricate layered imagery.

Bookbinding
Bring the entire week’s projects together in bookbinding. Kids learn a number of creative binding techniques and book structures, completing at least three finished artist’s books: a pamphlet, a dos-à-dos (or back-to-back) book, or a chopstick book. Each artist will choose which papers and prints to include in their masterworks and will have surplus paper to complete even more books.
