Learn Letterpress 3: Multi-Color Registration

May 24, 12:00 – 3:30pm
May 25, 12:00 – 3:30pm

All times are US/Central time zone

Learn the tips and tricks to take the frustration out of aligning multiple colors in your letterpress prints. In this class students will split up amongst platen and cylinder presses and learn the similar techniques to getting that beautiful, perfect alignment…or how to intentionally mis-register your prints to create an effect. Mastering registration is one of the key skills for pulling a consistent edition. Learning this skill will help you save time on press and reduce frustration when working with multiple colors. We’ll also address ink selection and mixing.

This class takes place over two sessions and is open to students who have successfully completed Learn Letterpress 1 & 2 or by permission of the instructor for those with previous letterpress experience. This class will benefit those who’ve take Digital Letterpress and would like to advance their multiplate registration skills. Successful completion of Levels 1, 2, and 3 certifies a student to use letterpress equipment during Open Studio.

Pull paper and letterpress print in this two-day workshop! This workshop offers students the opportunity to experience an express version of two of our popular offerings: papermaking and letterpress printing. First, you’ll learn how to pull card-size sheets of paper with master papermaker Kathy Gurwell. In the second session after your paper has dried, you will use your very own paper to print a simple letterpress greeting card edition. Like farm to table, this workshop offers students a chance to experience the entire continuum of pulp to final print.

This workshop does not certify for Open Studio.

All experience levels welcome. Adults 18+.

David Foster Wallace said, “Many of the most important impressions and thoughts in a person’s life are ones that flash through your head so fast that fast isn’t even the right word.” In this storytelling and poetry workshop, we’ll explore the relationship between language and thoughts, words and memory, and transfer our impressions from the mind to the typewritten page. Join instructor Nick Almeida for laidback and approachable writing workshops, open to the seasoned writer, the part-time dreamer, and everyone in between. Typewriters, paper, and writing implements provided. (Although if you have your own typewriter, feel free to bring in!)
