Her conceptual practice mirrors this multidisciplinary approach as it focuses on discrete yet intertwining identities and their effect on her daily life. She attended undergraduate at Virginia Commonwealth University where she also finished a post-Baccalaureate degree in Nonprofit Management, which she plans to use in order to found a radically accessible artist residency. As a Houston native, she is thrilled to return to her hometown and become a part of Texas’ vibrant artistic community.

Illustration for Riso

March 28, 2022 @ 6:00 pm March 29, 2022 @ 8:30 pm

This workshop is sold out, but you can still sign up for the May 21st date!

Learn the creative and technical processes in making a multi-color illustration on the risograph! The risograph is a beloved printer that mixes digital and offset printing, overlaying vibrant colors like a screenprint but with more detailed grain and halftones. In the first section of the workshop we will go over how the risograph works. Participants will see print examples and the various effects you can make layering multiple colors and opacities. Participants will also be introduced to various mark-making methods for hand-drawn stencils. In the second section students will be trained in how to operate the risograph to print their stencils and complete a multi-colored illustration.

Successful completion of the class certifies students to reserve the Risograph during Open Studio.

  • Preparing files especially for riso, covering topics such as ink coverage, opacities, and trapping

  • Printing in “CMYK” with bit-mapped effects (using Medium Blue, Fluorescent Pink, Sunflower Yellow, and Black)

  • Week 2: working on art and text, demo on creating a ready-to-print imposed file

  • Week 4: printing day 2 and finishing (collate, staple/bind, and trim books)

Successful completion of the class certifies students to reserve the Risograph during Open Studio.
