Are you new to letterpress printing or do you live in an area that is far from tools and supplies? Join Michelle Wiebe as she explores traditional printing accessories and the dos and don’ts of improvising materials with your presses and projects. This interactive demonstration will cover the logic behind why we strive to use the traditional items in our printing and alternatives that are safe for both you and your machine. Topics covered will include materials for lock up, printing and clean up that can be easily sourced from your local art or hardware store. Also discussed will be alternatives to press accessories such as gauge pins, tympan paper and rollers as well as how to get started with a simplified or incomplete set up. There will be plenty of time during this demonstration to cover questions and individual challenges, so specific questions are welcome. If you are facing challenges on completing your studio set up – this class is for you.

Through a hands-on printing project, students will gain a foundational understanding of the principles of letterpress printing. Using a curated selection from the movable type collection, sign presses, and hand-operated Vandercook presses, students will come away with an edition of a small poster or similar side project and the satisfaction of pulling beautiful prints!
This class takes place over two sessions and is open to all levels and is a pre-req for continuing skill progression in letterpress level 2 and 3 classes. Successful completion of Levels 1, 2, and 3 certifies a student to use letterpress equipment during Open Studio.

Family Fun events are a great way to experience a range of printmaking activities as a family! All activities accommodate a range of developmental levels that support children 6+ working together or alongside an adult/guardian. Reservations are in 45-minute increments on the hour starting at 11:00AM until 2:00PM. Registration includes General Admission to the museum!
If you love letterpress and LEGOs, learn how to combine them in this playful alternative letterpress printing technique! In this fun, hands-on workshop, use LEGO tile bricks and a printing press to create your own unique 8-bit letterpress work of art. We’ll provide the bricks, press, and our helpful staff who will be on hand to assist you with printing your creation. You may want to bring an apron or old shirt you are willing to get ink and dirt on for this printing workshop.

Get your fingers inky in this whirlwind, two-hour letterpress event. The evening starts with a short demonstration on how to use the press and get a good print.
