Introduction to Drypoint Engraving

April 29 @ 10:00 am 1:00 pm

This workshop introduces students to a modern take on drypoint engraving, which is one of several forms of traditional intaglio printmaking. It is a great entry into printmaking for beginners and a good opportunity for those with experience to try a new technique, or just to use the etching press. The method involves translating a drawing onto a plexiglass plate by incising, scratching, and texturizing it, and then inking up the design and printing using an etching press. The intense pressure helps to transfer the image to paper, but also embosses the paper with the outline of the plate. The plate itself should be stable for creating medium sized editions.

Plates, inks, and paper all provided by the Printing Museum and are included in the cost of the workshop; you may wish to bring your own apron and reusable gloves. All experience levels welcome. Adults 18+

Registration: $95, all supplies included.
