We can help you earn requirements for merit badges! Our scout workshops are run by official merit badge counselors.

Our scout programs are designed for groups of 6 individuals or more (see specific badge for maximum number per badge session)and are available during our open hours Tuesday – Saturday. Contact the Printing Museum, about availability: tours@printingmuseum.org or complete the interest form below.


Badge Options

Girl Scout Cadette – Book Artist

$25 per individual, (2 hours), 6 – 15 scouts

  • Explore the art of bookbinding by starting with a hands-on tour of the museum, learning about the history of printing and book making.
  • Visit our Bookbinder’s studio where you will learn about the tools of the trade and the parts of the book. 
  • Be a Book Artist and make your own book or journal to take home! 

Girl Scout Senior – Collage Artist

$25 per individual, (2 hours), 6 – 15 scouts

  • Try your hand at papermarbling, printing and art design to render a colorful collage and a miniature collage!
  • Take a tour of the museum and explore the type collages on display
  • Learn about different aspects of collage art such as its use for social commentary and specific artistic techniques like cubomania  

BSA Pulp and Paper Merit Badge

$35 per individual, (2 hours), 6 – 12 scouts

  • Make your own handmade paper!
  • Learn about the history of papermaking, and paper’s role in our society and economy.
  • Discover the trees that are the major sources of papermaking fibers.

BSA Graphic Arts Merit Badge

$38 per individual, (3 hours), 6 – 8 scouts

  • Experiment with different forms of printing such as screenprinting, digital printing and relief printing
  • See firsthand the evolution of printing from Gutenberg’s press to letterpress to offset lithography. 
  • Use unique materials such as legos and rubber fish molds and wood/metal type to pull prints

BSA Art Merit Badge

$25 per individual, (2 hours), 6 – 12 scouts

  • Develop your artistic skills in areas such as printing, painting and drawing
  • Use unique materials such as legos and rubber fish molds and shaving cream to create masterpieces
  • Take a guided tour of the museum and try your hand at calligraphy and printing on a 150+ year old press!
