Spacey Book Sculptures

February 21, 2019 @ 12:00 pm - 3:00 pm

Spacey Book Sculptures

This out-of-this-world workshop presents projects designed to show off our fascination with outer space — from the Jetsons to the space station — and our love of books, which give our imaginations flight.  Together, we’ll make use (or re-use) of discarded book covers, illustrations, and text pages. Learn cutting, folding, and construction techniques to transform thrift shop books into a variety of 3-D sculptural objects to combine in infinite possibilities.

Projects include individual design elements such as hollow orbs, folded ‘flying saucer’ and ornament text blocks, and book ‘bursts’ as well as folded sculptures from entire books to wall hang or lay flat as fluffy bases to build upon or use as centerpieces. Or construct a fanciful spaceship from one entire book.  Lee’s other “Repurposed” book projects will be shown and discussed so you’ll go home with plenty of patterns and ideas.
