Students will learn the basics, from dry fiber to sheet formation, as well as techniques for embellishing bare sheets into works of art using a technique called printing with pulp. Using finely beaten cotton pulp that is screened onto the wet pulled sheet with a hand-cut stencil. When dried, the print is actually part of the paper, which can stand alone as a piece of art or be used in creating a hand-bound book or other mixed media creation. This class will cover various pulp printing techniques, including stencils, collage inclusions, and direct painting. Techniques for making paper at home will be discussed.
