Digital Letterpress- CLASS FULL

Learn the fundamentals of letterpress printing using photopolymer plates. During the first class students will receive a brief introduction to the letterpress print process and learn the basics of print production for photopolymer platemaking using the Adobe Creative Suite. Instruction will be provided on best design practices for letterpress printing, file prep, and how to order photopolymer plates. Between the first and second class students will create their own two color design, prepare their files for production and send out for plates. The second class will focus on printing, with students using their plates to print on one of the Museum’s tabletop platen presses. Skills covered include: designing for letterpress, proper registration, inking the press, and impression. (For this class, the materials fee only covers ink and paper costs. Students will be responsible for ordering and paying for their own plates).

Cost:  $120 (includes materials)

Dates: Tuesday, April 12th 2016; 6:00pm to 8:00pm (Part 1)

Saturday, April 30th 2016; 10:00am to 2:00pm (Part 2)

John Earles

John Earles is the co-founder and designated pressman at Workhorse Printmakers, a boutique letterpress studio. When not laboring over making a deep impression or maintaining ink, he can be found illustrating for paper goods at Product Superior. Earles received his Master of Fine Arts at the School of Visual Arts in New York and teaches letterpress at the University of Houston. John currently serves as the Director of Operations for AIGA Houston and Secretary on the Board of Directors of The Printing Museum.
