Linotype Day

May 23 @ 10:00 am 2:00 pm

Celebrate the machine that Thomas Edison called “The Eighth Wonder of the World.” The Linotype Machine was the first machine at which a person could use a keyboard to compose a single line of type, cast in lead. We’ll be casting type from visitor submitted text from 10 a.m. to Noon, locking it all up and making community prints in our Letterpress Studio for visitors to take home. We’ll also celebrate the birthday of Ottmar Mergenthaler, the inventor of the Linotype Machine with free refreshments from 10 a.m to Noon. Free admission from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
