The Moveable Type Truck visits The Printing Museum

March 14, 2020 @ 1:00 pm - 4:00 pm

Kyle Durrie of Power and Light Press (Silver City, NM) is once again on the move! She’ll be visiting Houston with her “Moveable Type” truck, demonstrating letterpress printing at The Printing Museum on Saturday March 14th from 1-4pm.

Come check out the “Moveable Type” truck, learn how to print the old fashioned way, and peruse a selection of Power and Light Press’ letterpress printed merchandise available for sale.

This is the second cross-country tour Kyle Durrie has made with the mobile print shop truck. She is visiting small towns and big cities to spread the good word about the craft of letterpress printing, by hosting public pop-ups, letterpress demos, and events along the way.

Organizer

Kyle Durrie

Kyle Durrie is the proprietor of Power and Light Press, a letterpress studio specializing in inappropriate greeting cards as well as posters, music packaging, and custom stationery. She has been letterpress printing since 2006, and got her start through classes at the Independent Publishing Resource Center (Portland, OR) and Pratt Art Center (Seattle, WA), as well as through independent study and apprenticeships at Blue Barnhouse (Asheville, NC) and Wolfe Editions (Portland, ME). Power and Light Press is based out of Silver City, NM.

Back in 2011-2013, I (Kyle) traveled around the country in this same truck, visiting small towns and big cities, and spreading the good word about printing the old fashioned way. I was on a mission to share the craft of letterpress with anyone willing to listen, while also exploring the outer limits of my own creativity and sense of adventure. The original “Moveable Type” tour spanned 11 months, 47 states, 2 Canadian provinces, over 37,000 miles, 190 cities and towns, and countless flat tires and empty gas tanks. Several shorter tours followed prior to parking the truck for what I thought would be for good. But sometimes you just can’t see what’s up around the bend. The truck and I are both a few years older, a little bit wiser, and a whole lot rustier, but we’re so excited to hit the road again!
